Love Thy Neighbor

Shirt, Talbots. Skirt, Brooks Brothers. Necklace, street vendor. Sandals, Geox.

The people in my building love to advertise their peeves in little notes they tape up in the elevator. Apparently, delinquent residents park their Hummers in other people's spaces and fill lockers that don't belong to them (with illicit products, I hope). After sixteen months of agonizing over their silly spelling and glaringly bad grammar, I finally cracked. Today's culprit was the classic its versus it's mistake, which I made sure to point out in my finest cursive. Let me tell you, it felt good. Like a brand new episode of House Hunters International good. By not laminating the note, this neighbor was asking for it. Ergo, I did some editing today - pro bono. The neighborly thing to do.

P.S. Our rec room has been closed for over a year due to "miss use." At least it wasn't Miss Demeanor!

The inspiration for today's palette.

You look gloriously stylish. Wonderful.

I was at the Biltmore House this weekend and there was a fountain dedicated to the Vanderbilt family's dog. Unfortunately the touching gesture was ruined by the sign, which said "dedicated to the Vanderbilt's beloved dog". Failure: achieved.

I would have made that same edit. You should make it a thing -- the Grammar Bandit! You could use a Sharpie for the laminated notes. (People take the time to laminate them? Wow.)

Ah, note-leaving-neighbors are the bomb. Not.

My boss has horrible grammar and spelling and I always want to correct her signs :).

Oh, good grief. Somebody at my job labeled the decaf coffee urn "decafe". I can't pull the sticker off, though I've tried. I might need to take a Sharpie to it.

Ohhhh miss use. My grammar pet peeve is when people write "I could of" or "I should of..." Or when they repeat the last word of an acronym, like "ATM machine" or "SIN number." BUT, I make mistakes when I'm dealing with math, so I try to remember that we're not all perfect.
