The Elegance Of The Hedgehog

Cardigan, J.Crew. Skirt, thrifted. Knee socks, DKNY. Wellies, Hunter.

I've been meaning to read Muriel Barbery's The Elegance of the Hedgehog for over a year now and I just can't seem to find the patience to do it, despite the glowing reviews. Lately, it has been clawing its way out of my subconscious and into my poses, as seen below. Really, I did not plan this! So, what are my options here? Read it, read it or... read it. Will someone please tell me they've read it and it's worth every word?

That sweater is so cute! I love the color, and it looks great with your dark hair. I have boots just like that in a purplish blue color!

this is such an amazing outfit! the socks and boots with a full skirt is just right.

Honestly, it has its moments (especially the first half), but I think your outfit today is much better than the book. Gasp! Shock! Horror! So there.

I want your skirt!! And I'm so glad I'm not the only one who put wellies into my 30. Yay for adorable practicality.

Grad school has made me love reading blogs and hate reading anything else. So no reviews on the hedgehog here :D

How clever. You look like a perfect little replica of the book cover.

I haven't read it...yet. It's been sitting on my bookshelf waiting for me for, oh, almost a year. My cousin read it and she said it wasn't half as good as she had hoped. Perhaps that is why I've been putting it off. :O

Really cute.

And the book is good, but I say you have to be in the right mood - parts move kind of slowly as they're kind of discourses on things like aesthetics (written by the young girl character). if you're in the right mood, they're interesting, if you're in the mood for a page turner, they're boring.

but overall, i thought the story was kind of wonderful... worth reading if you can get through the rest :)

I really liked the pose in front of the door at first, but seeing it side-by-side with the book cover is love! You're so adorable!

I love the mix of colors here, with the green (they are green, right?) socks peeking out of the wellies. This is such a cute, preppy downtown look.

I read it, and I loved it. One of my top five of the year, actually. But what the others have said here is true--it is definitely an acquired taste, but I think once you have gotten to know the characters, you can't help but love them.

Here's a post I did on my blog: Looks & Books
